Pricing

What a repair
actually costs.

The service call is $185 and it covers the trip and the diagnosis. Everything after that is quoted before it is touched, because nobody should find out the price after the work.

The one number we can give you up front

$185. That is the service call. It covers the drive out and a proper diagnosis, and it is the same figure in Brighton as it is in Farmington Hills, because there is no distance surcharge anywhere inside the radius. It is also the only number you are agreeing to when you book. Whatever the repair turns out to need is priced and explained to you before a single part is touched.

We are aware that is not the answer people searching for a repair price want. They want a figure for the whole job. The honest position is that nobody can give you that before knowing what failed, and the shops that do quote a flat repair price before seeing the tub are either padding it to cover the worst case or planning to revise it once they are in your garden.

What actually drives the price

Repairs on a hot tub fall into rough tiers, and knowing which tier you are probably in tells you more than a made-up average would.

  • At the cheap end. Filters, pressure and flow switches, temperature sensors, fuses and fittings. These are small parts and quick labour, and a fair number of the calls that start as an emergency end here. Some of them you can clear yourself for nothing, which is what the symptom checker is for.
  • In the middle. Heater elements and assemblies, circulation and jet pumps, topside control panels. These are the true workhorse failures, they are what most repairs turn out to be, and on a tub in reasonable condition they are comfortably worth doing.
  • At the top. Control pack replacement, and plumbing repairs that need the tub opened up. This is where the conversation turns into whether the rest of the tub justifies the spend, and that is a conversation we have with you rather than around you.
  • Off the scale. A cracked or delaminating shell. There is no repair here worth funding, and we will tell you that instead of selling you a heater for a tub that is finished.

Three things that quietly move the number

Access. A tub with three feet of clearance and panels that lift off is a straightforward visit. The same repair on a tub wedged into a side yard with the equipment side against a fence, or dropped into a deck with the pack in a vault underneath, is a different job. Describing the access when you call is the single most useful thing you can do for your own quote.

Whether the part has to be ordered. Common components for the major pack manufacturers are usually to hand. Genuinely proprietary parts are not, and when that is the case you hear it on day one along with a realistic timeline rather than discovering it a fortnight in.

How long it has been left. This is the expensive one. A pump run dry damages itself in minutes and turns one repair into two. A GFCI reset repeatedly against a real ground fault turns a diagnosis into a bigger problem. A slow leak in an enclosed equipment bay quietly takes out the heater, the pump motor and sometimes the board before anybody notices it.

What you can rule out before you spend anything

A meaningful share of the calls we take are things an owner can clear in ten minutes, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than take $185 to tell you in person. Before you book, it is worth running the symptom checker and, if the panel is showing something, the error code index . Both are free and neither tries to book you.

Repair or replace

The rough test is whether the repair costs a large fraction of what the tub is currently worth, and whether the tub has more failures queued behind this one. A twelve year old spa in good condition with a dead heater is a clear repair. A twenty-five year old spa with a tired pack, a saturated cover, a stained shell and now a leak is usually money better spent elsewhere.

We have an interest in saying that honestly, because we are a service company rather than a dealer trying to move new inventory. When the answer is that a tub is finished, we sell refurbished tubs and we handle removal and disposal .

What we need from you to price it properly

  • The make, and the model if you can find it. The sticker is usually on the cabinet near the equipment side.
  • The exact characters on the display. Not "an error" — the actual code. Codes vary by manufacturer and the letters matter.
  • What it is doing and when it started. Intermittent behaviour and sudden failure point at different things.
  • How much room there is on the equipment side. Two photographs prevent more wasted trips than anything else we ask for.
