Cal Spas

Cal Spas
repair.

An enormous model range sold through a lot of different channels over a lot of years, which means plenty of Cal Spas in this area have no dealer attached to them any more. That is a sourcing question, not a dead end.

Cal Spas, serviced independently

Cal Spas has produced a very wide model range over a long period and sold it through a lot of different channels. The practical result across Southeast Michigan is a large installed base with highly variable specification and, for a good number of owners, no dealer relationship left standing.

Dr. Spa services them independently and has since 2001. There is nothing to lapse, nothing to renew, and no interest on our side in telling you a tub is finished so that we can sell you another one.

Identifying what you actually own

With a range this broad, the first job on a Cal Spa is frequently working out what is in the cabinet rather than what is printed on it. The badge tells us very little. The control pack tells us almost everything.

  • The pack label. Inside the equipment bay, carrying its own manufacturer and model. This is what parts are ordered against.
  • The topside panel. Its generation narrows down the pack and the code scheme it uses.
  • The serial sticker. Usually on the cabinet near the equipment side, and useful for dating the install.

Photographs of those three before you book save more time than anything else you can send us.

What we get called out for

  • No heat. Elements and high-limit sensors, and on well water, scale as the underlying cause.
  • Flow and pressure codes. Filters, circulation pumps and switches. Worth checking the error code index first.
  • Breaker trips. Diagnosed spa-side first so the right trade gets called. Supply circuit work is licensed electrical work and we do not do it.
  • Topside panels and packs. Blank displays, unresponsive buttons, and relays that have welded rather than failed cleanly.

Orphaned is not the same as unserviceable

This is the single most common thing Cal Spas owners get told wrong. Underneath the badge, the parts that actually fail are common components from a much smaller group of suppliers than the market implies. Where a part genuinely is proprietary and slow to source, you hear that on day one along with a realistic timeline, rather than discovering it a fortnight in.

Where we stop

Electrical work on a spa circuit is licensed work in Michigan and Dr. Spa does not do it. We diagnose everything on the spa side of the disconnect and tell you plainly whether the fault is in the tub or the circuit feeding it. When it is the circuit, you get exactly what to ask a licensed electrician for.

How the visit runs

Tell us the make, roughly how old it is, and what the panel is showing. A good share of the time we can tell you over the phone whether it is something you can fix yourself in ten minutes. If it needs a technician, the $185 service call covers the trip and the diagnosis, and you hear the actual fault and the cost before anything is replaced.

The error code index covers what the panel is telling you, and the symptom checker starts from what the tub is doing instead.

Dr. Spa Inc is an independent hot tub and spa service company. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an authorised dealer for Cal Spas. Brand names are used to describe the equipment we repair.
